Manifesting the Blessing
God is great, supreme, omnipotent, and many, many other grand adjectives. He is the Lord – the κύριος (kyrios) of the Cosmos, the all sufficient creator, the sovereign King (Col. 1:15-20). Yet, great as he is, God longs for you and me to know him as Daddy, as Husband.
“In that day,” declares the LORD, “you will call me ‘my husband’; you will no longer call me ‘my master.’ – Hosea 2:16
And, as Daddy, God longs to see you blessed, prospered, and whole! Papa’s greatest desire is to see his children happy and healthy, enjoying his rich provision. You are God’s highest priority; don’t listen to grumpy preachers encouraging you to put God first place, how can you put the Divine on a list? Christianity is not a call for you to put God first, Christianity is receiving from the good God who always puts you first. Again, you are God’s HIGHEST priority, and as such he longs to see you blessed!
“Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication; And let them say continually, “The LORD be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant.” – Psalm 35: 27 (emphasis mine)
Many people can’t imagine God blessing them because of the distorted picture of him they have inherited. Multitudes see God as an isolated being who has to check heaven’s store houses to send something as simple as rain; they see God as stingy, someone who can help but either because of limited supply or a bad attitude won’t. But, God is not just a three letter word, but a three person family; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is in understanding the relationship of the Trinity that we see God’s heart to see his children blessed. The Father, Son, and Spirit have always existed in mutual love, adoration, health and prosperity. They dote on one another, they always have. They adore one another, they always have. And they exist in immeasurable prosperity and health, they always have. They are blessed. And, they desired to share this relationship with children, namely human-kind. Through the cross we are given the opportunity to be reconciled to God and share in this circle. The Trinity love to share all that they are and all that they have with us. When you became a Christian you weren’t given a contract of employment, you were adopted, plugged into this marvelous family. This is the context of your blessing!
God has always wanted us blessed. In-fact, to say opposite would go against scriptural intent. The Bible clearly reveals that God’s first act towards living humankind was to bless them;
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” – Genesis 1:28 (emphasis mine)
God revealed his intention and will for humankind in the first chapter of the Bible and it has never changed. God wants his children blessed, happy, and fruitful! Through Christ we have had the blessing restored in fullness; the same supernatural blessing God gave Adam and Eve is ours. We are placed back in Eden, we are restored back to paradise (Eden (עֵדֶן) means pleasure), we are IN Christ, seated with him in the heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). So, stop hiding in the bushes, come out and enjoy Eden, enjoy the sunshine of God’s love, the fruit of the Spirit, the multi-faceted trees of blessing. At the moment we don’t see the fullness of Eden on this physical world, but we do see Jesus, we do see the Spiritual reality (see Hebrews 2), and God has given us the blessing so that eventually earth can look fully like paradise. Earth is in the process of being transformed to look like heaven (Rom. 8:18-21). God needs you to enjoy the manifestation of the blessed life to invade this world with heaven. As you sit back and enjoy Papa’s love you see blessings manifest, infecting your home, your church, your town, your country! This is God’s method of transformation.
Don’t make the mistake of trying to be successful for God. Don’t think that success is a measure of your holiness or of God’s approval of you. And, certainly don’t think the only reason God wants you blessed is for the sake of everyone else. No, you are loved and accepted, cuddled up in Daddy God’s arms. He has already blessed you with every spiritual blessing heaven has to offer (Eph. 1:3), and as you rest in his love it will manifest (Eph. 3:19-20). God wants you to manifest blessings because he loves you. His goodness in your life is not just for the sake of others, it is for your sake. The priority with this stuff is rest, in-fact you must be at rest to be operating in true faith. Rest in effortless blessings. Enjoy restful increase. Look to Jesus for your success. It is in Jesus where the goodies lie, he became for us all that we need (see 1 Corinthians 1:30), and as we keep enjoying Jesus, seeing him as he is, we will manifest his goodness and glory;
“But we all, with open face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” – 2 Corinthians 3:18
God is always good and desires that his goodness be the attraction for the Kingdom. God is not interested in fear being the motivator, or guilt, shame, or any other negative counterfeit. His goodness is enough. It is the Holy Spirit in us that reveals God’s goodness; his blessings. The Spirit takes what Jesus is and has and makes it known to you, he shows you that the glory and prosperity that the Father has is yours too. This is Kingdom evangelism; the Spirit reveals to you your inheritance and then the world gets jealous, convicted of unbelief. It causes people to wonder why they wouldn’t believe in a God who ministers to his children so profoundly. It’s the abundant life which attracts people to the Kingdom.
“When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regards to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; in regard to righteousness because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and in regard to judgment because the prince of this world now stands condemned…. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me (through the new covenant revelation).” – John 16:8-16 (emphasis and brackets mine)
Jesus gave all that he is to make certain that you will get all that he is. This includes every blessing that the blessed Trinity enjoy; health, wholeness, joy, material wealth, peace. Jesus became poor that you, through his poverty, might become RICH (2 Cor, 8:9).
The abundant life is receiving spiritual life; spiritual grace (John 1:16), spiritual blessings (Eph. 1:3). However, this spiritual life doesn’t just have to stay in the spiritual realm; it can be mirrored in our tangible, outward lives. Just like Abraham, he received a spiritual blessing, a spiritual promise (Genesis 12:2-3), and this was mirrored in his outward life, resulting in health, long life and material wealth,
“And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.” – Genesis 13:2
We are irreversibly blessed, and like Abraham as we receive grace and Papa’s love we will see it manifest in our everyday lives. In-fact, we have been given the blessing of Abraham (as well as much more), that very same empowerment and blessing is on our lives,
“Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” – Galatians 3:13-14
Friends, we are a blessed people, heirs of the entire Cosmos in-fact (see Romans 4:13), heirs of God himself, co-heirs with Jesus (see Romans 8:17). See yourself as such! See yourself blessed, filled with all the fullness of God (Col. 2:9-10), seated in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6), filled with health, wholeness, surrounded with favor! As you do you will see good success!
