One of the most glorious aspects of our inheritance in Christ is that we can continuously experience the tangible glory of God, at all times, in spite of our behavior. Many in Christianity are waiting for the next big meeting, or for a personal encounter with ‘Mr. prophet of God’ or ‘apostle so-and-so’ to be knocked off their feet by a ‘new wave of glory’. This is what The Bible names ‘zeal without knowledge’ (Proverbs 19:2). It is misdirected passion! – You don’t have to wait for a special event to experience the manifest glory of Jesus, when it is your constant inheritance. God desires for you, right now, in the ordinariness of life, to live within His manifest glory!
First thing’s first, the glory of God is not some weird, unknowable aspect of God. It is not like God is wearing a trench coat, and when you please him enough he pulls out his strange party trick from his secret inside pocket –taa-daa the glory! No, the glory of God is simple, and it is His desire that you live within that manifest experience, which is the culture of heaven (Luke 17:21). The glory is God is this: his goodness. God Himself defines it that way for us in Exodus, when Moses, like many of us, asked: “SHOW ME YOUR GLORY!”. God responds as an encouraging Papa, and says ‘I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you’ (Exodus 33:19). Don’t let anyone distract you from the simplicity of the Gospel! (2 Corinthians 11:3)
In order to experience the glory all of the time, you don’t have to press in – just trust that Jesus loves you, that He is Papa, and that He left you ‘the glorious riches of His grace’ (Ephesians 3:16). Trust in the love of God. He isn’t keeping an obscure secret from you – He shares everything freely with His children, and His glory is simply His goodness. It is a Daddy interacting with His children – God is pure love, and His glory is not some abstract code to be deciphered. Like any part of our inheritance, to live in the manifest experience of this, which I shall call ‘a love cuddle’, you simply have to trust the nature of God and our inheritance in Jesus. The Bible calls this ‘knowing and believing the love God has for us’ (1 John 4:16) – believing is simply receiving the good news of what Christ has already done for us, until our minds are filled with the truth that our heart echoes! (Romans 5:17; Philippians 4:8; Romans 12:2). Fill your mind with resources on the grace and goodness of Jesus, and watch as you see His love showing up in multi-faceted ways in your life. That includes dreams, and all manner of creative miracles – each a creative explosion of His goodness, in ways tailored to suit our unique personalities. Daddy loves to show up and show off in His love for us! (Mark 16:17-18).
In the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the heavens were torn open like a great piñata, and every spiritual goodie was poured out upon us – the mysteries of heaven were lavished upon us. God held nothing back! – We have a continuously flowing river of God’s life inside of us, that wells up inside of us every time we believe/rest/rely on the all-sufficiency of Jesus’s love and grace. As we enjoy what Jesus has already accomplished for us, we are refreshed and encouraged in this river of God’s life! (John 4:14; Revelation 22:1; Ezekiel 47:5). We exist in this very river of God’s life! Not only this, but the goodness of God’s creative miracles is unparalleled in the entire world. This is why throughout the Bible, we encounter God’s people being able to understand visions and dreams that the world’s magicians cannot. (Genesis 41:15; Daniel 1:20). You are filled to overflowing with the tangible, manifest glory of Jesus. You don’t need to be hungry for the next revelation, when Jesus Christ is the alpha and the omega (Revelation 22:13) – His cross and resurrection is the ever-satisfying feast (Isaiah 55:1; Jeremiah 31:4; Psalm 36:8; Psalm 23). Jesus speaks to you a more personalized and satisfying love than anything in this world. His love is the glory. As you begin to understand the scope of His love for you, you realize that in Christ ‘it is a whole new world’ – a superior reality! (2 Corinthians 5:17) . His love is heaven on earth.
In Ephesians 3:18, God’s love is described with the dimensions of a cube (Ephesians 3:18). This highlights a beautiful truth to us, because the dimensions of the ‘holy of holies’ (the holiest place on earth), and the ‘holy city’ in Revelation, are both given the dimensions of a cube. – All of these things are the love of God! As we enjoy the love of Jesus, we are in the holy of holies and the ‘New Jerusalem’, because it is God’s love and goodness which is His glory. We experience heaven on earth as we enjoy God’s love (Revelation 21:2-3).
