God’s Vision for Your Prosperity

Luke 6:38 (KJV)

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

Did you know that the Gospel – without your efforts – has the power to bring about manifest, abundant prosperity in your life? All of the promises of God for your salvation are contained in Scripture, and freely gifted to you in the grace of Jesus Christ, so that you never have to live in lack – not even for a second! (Romans 1:17; 2 Corinthians 1:20). In Luke 6:38, we see God’s heart for abundance, and that God’s idea of prosperity is lavish, and over the top, so that you are jam-packed with overwhelming affluence. God’s idea of prosperity isn’t that you just have enough to get by and get the bills paid, it is ‘good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over’. In other words, God desires for you to be able to richly enjoy all things –   family vacations,  expensive food and drink, giving to others, having fun as an heir of the world ,without a care in the world! – because you know that your finances will always run over and are luxuriantly provided for by your heavenly Father who has an inexhaustible supply of blessings to lavish on us as believers! (1 Timothy 6:17).

Now, don’t mistake Luke 6 as a ‘conditional’ promise either. Under the Old Covenant, you had to give to receive. However, under the New Covenant, inaugurated through Jesus’ blood (Matthew 26:28), Jesus gave everything for us so that we could freely receive the blessing of prosperity. As Romans 8:32 (KJV) declares, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” – In Christ, you have been freely given all things, including material blessings. God gave, so that manifest prosperity could be freely given to us! Therefore, you can allow the Gospel and the promises in Scripture to re-define your ideas of abundance and prosperity so that they are infinitely enlarged ‘in accordance with the riches of His glory’, and not in accordance with what your bank account says, your tithing, your sowing into  ministries, or your paycheque. God desires that you trust the Gospel with your material wealth and security! (Philippians 4:19). As you begin to trust the Father, and not your own efforts, as the source of your material income, you will declare along with the Psalmist that “I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.” (Psalm 37:25, NIV). Step into God’s abundant supply of grace, and see prosperity manifesting all around you. As 2 Corinthians 8:9 (KJV) says, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” – some people try to spiritualise this verse, but the entire context of 2 Corinthians 8 is material wealth!

2 Corinthians 9:8 (AMP) is another Bible verse which speaks of God’s heart for prosperity, “And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.” – God desires that you have so much prosperity in Him that you are completely self-sufficient upon His goodness and grace, trusting that He will always, without fail, provide! Once again, don’t read law into this verse, as it is not saying that we ‘need to’ or ‘have to’ give to charity in order to receive. Instead, it is encouraging us that we will have so much money that we ‘get to’ live out the desires our heart and new nature in Christ: we get to share in the exciting blessing of giving to others! (Acts 20:35). Being able to give freely to others, as a joyful giver, as one who has freely received, will only come to us when we realise that we have a never-ending supply of financial security in Christ (2 Corinthians 9:7). When the believer gives ‘according to what He has’ (i.e. abundant, inexhaustible material riches and security in Christ), they gain a ‘willing mind’ to give freely to others! (2 Corinthians 8:12; KJV).  Believer, God delights in your prosperity, because He loves to see you blessed and prosperous (Psalm 35:27; Psalm 122:7). Jeremiah 33:6 (NIV) declares, “’Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” – God wants you to enjoy security and prosperity! He wishes that in all things we prosper and be in health! (3 John 1:, KJV).
