Separating Truth from Religious Behaviors and Rituals (Part Two)

A Defeated Enemy!

One of the lies of burdensome religious beliefs is that negative actions and words need to 63be counteracted or balanced with faith-filled ones; otherwise you may receive something negative or be vulnerable to the enemy. This lie has caused many to live within the bondage of ‘religious’ (superstitious) behaviors and rituals. When someone explores the prophetic without a proper revelation of God’s grace in Jesus Christ, the result is often superstition, religious behaviors, rituals, and paranoia!

The truth of grace is that Jesus single-handedly saved you, plunged you into heaven on earth in the here and now, and preserves you in this superior existence. Your reality is resurrection-glory! Therefore as a believer you cannot actively receive anything negative – faithless and negative words and actions have no spiritual power or dominion over you – they do not exist in your fresh, new reality of the vitality of Jesus Christ, in which you share in all of the goodies of His resurrection, being filled with that same glory! (See John 17:22; 1 Thessalonians 2:12). You reside in the new world of heaven on earth in the here and now, completely separated from the old world and old ways of do-to-be-mentalities, manipulation, superstition and control. Religion speaks a dead language and has been 21made completely irrelevant to you through the resurrection-life of the Spirit that flows through your veins. You are completely dead to sin, demons and the demonic realm, as well as to complicated mechanisms to try to control, maintain, and sustain your spirituality/spiritual experiences (see Romans 6:11).

At one time, you were the master of your own spirituality, and reaped the fruits of that, but now, through the finished work of Jesus Christ, Ephesians 1 (PHILLIPS) astounds us with the reality that we are God’s ‘holy and blameless children living within his constant care.’ We live within the finished work and detailed care of Jesus Christ. God has given us a constant, ever-flowing supply of blessing that counteracts and transforms all curses effortlessly. We can radiate the light of Jesus within us, so that anything negative that touches us is itself transformed to light! (John 1:5; Psalm 36:9). We are surely surrounded with favor as a shield! (Psalm 5:12). Demons do not exist in your realm, because you are in Christ, one with His resurrection, and flowing with these resurrection realities organically, naturally, and effortlessly. Galatians 2:20 (AMP) declares to us that:

“I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

In other words, in and through Christ, you can view yourself and your world through resurrection eyes. See how the J. B. Phillips translation writes Galatians 2:20, “And my present life is not that of the old “I”, but the living Christ within me.” – Just as Christ is the light the darkness flees from, you are also filled with this same light, this same favor, this same glory! You can consequently live with the declaration of Galatians 6:14, “But let it not be for me to take pride except in the crucifixion of our Lord Yeshua The Messiah, in whom the universe has been crucified to me, and I have been crucified to the universe.” (Aramaic Bible in Plain English) – Allow yourself to organically, naturally, 64effortlessly radiate the bliss-filled, love-lavished glory of your co-resurrection with Christ as you perceive the crucifixion which has taken place – a crucifixion that, in Christ, has ushered in the radiance and knowledge of God’s glory in every nook and cranny of human existence (Colossians 2:3; Habakkuk 2:14; Romans 8:19). Your works could never accomplish or attain even one iota of what Jesus did in one fell swoop at the cross!

You are in heaven on earth in the here and now. Ephesians 1:6 (KJV) announces that: “To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” The Greek word for ‘accepted’ used here is ‘charitoō’, which speaks of being completely encompassed by favor. You are fortified, established, and preserved in the reality of your co-crucifixion with Christ (by which every principality and power that was against you was completely destroyed – see Colossians 2:15), and in your co-resurrection in union with Christ, where you share in His new, holy nature, desires, and possess all that Christ is and has. This is exactly what it means when Colossians 1:13 in the Weymouth New Testament comments that “It is God who has delivered us out of the dominion of darkness, and has transferred us into the Kingdom of His dearly-loved Son,” – The language of Scripture delights itself in the fact that we are already in a new Kingdom, where the old world of demons and religious boogeymen has completely passed away. 2 Corinthians 5:17 expresses this gleefully:

  • “So if any one [be] in Christ, [there is] a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold all things have become new:” (Darby Bible Translation)

  • “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.” (Word English Bible)

  • “Therefore, if anyone is in the Messiah, he is a new creation. Old things have disappeared, and—look!—all things have become new!” (International Standard Version)

I also love the way that the Amplified Bible articulates in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that we are in a new world ‘because spiritual awakening brings new life’. Christ’s spiritual awakening 24blossoms effortlessly throughout our own human existence, because his belief inspires and expresses our own! (See Romans 1:17; Psalm 36:9; Romans 10:17).

In Matthew 2:18-20 (KJV) Jesus declares: “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” – If Jesus (and consequently you, who are in Him), have all authority, then the devil clearly has none! Luke 10:19 (KJV) unmistakably states the same thing; “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Believer, today hear the words of Jesus, that nothing can actively harm or curse you! You do not need to maintain your salvation; Jesus has already secured and established you in an unshakable Kingdom of His love, grace, and blessings! (Hebrews 12:28). As John Crowder in his book ‘Mystical Union’ says, “I don’t know much about your principalities but I do know about mine!”

Many religious teachings view the enemy as an active, looming force. However, Scripture shows that this is not the case – the enemy has already been totally destroyed and plundered (See Hebrews 2:14; Colossians 2:15). We are not fighting for victory, but resting in our seat of already established victory in Christ (Ephesians 2:6). Trusting in God’s grace will always fortify us from any wrong or false mindsets that would cause us to strive or strain. We live within His established victories; His detailed care of us! This is why Scripture mentions ‘the wiles of the devil’ (Ephesians 6:11; KJV), as the devil is completely and totally powerless, so you can only be deceived by unrenewed mindsets in yourself as well as in others. These unrenewed mindsets however are not an active force or substance and do not leave the door open for an active enemy. The enemy is completely defeated. In fact, even your mind is on an adventure of discovery, through the Holy Spirit (your heavenly tour guide of this whole new world in Christ!) into realising how gloriously redeemed and perfect it is. 1 Corinthians 2:12, 16 tells us that:

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God… For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (KJV)

Discovering our righteousness and grace in our co-crucifixion and co-resurrection with Christ (our inherited blessings!) will always, without fail, set us free – free from unrenewed mindsets, free to see every blessing of God manifest throughout our lives (John 508:32). The enemy has no active force or power to get at us or cause anything bad to happen as a consequence of us not fulfilling any religious ‘duties’ or ‘burdens’. He doesn’t even exist in our reality anymore. One of the Scriptures that really articulates this is Colossians 2:15 (KJV):

“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

The key to this verse is in the word ‘triumphing’, which makes reference to the Romans’ ‘triumphant procession’, which would take place to show that an enemy was completely powerless and had been conquered thoroughly. In a triumphant procession, the defeated king would be stripped naked in front of his subjects and dragged through the streets, with his thumbs and big toes cut off. This was to show that the defeated enemy was now laughable, unable to hold a sword, run, or engage in any kind of attack. There was nothing to fear of this foe[1]. The risen Jesus took the keys of death and hell away from the enemy,65.jpg and in our union with Him gave us the keys to heaven on earth in the here and now (See Revelation 1:18; Matthew 16:19; Revelation 3:7) . The enemy is not an active force and has no power or authority. Unfortunately, a lot of believers have missed this memo, and feel that as a result, they need to place upon themselves religious burdens such as Old Testament models of prophecy…

The Enemy is Powerless!

Hebrews 2:14-15 (KJV)

“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

The finished work of Jesus Christ is designed to completely free us from fear, particularly fear of a looming enemy who is able to actively attack us with sickness, sin, and disease at any time! However, many religious frameworks live unaware that Christ has destroyed the devil, although it is clearly stated in Scripture, in Hebrews 2:14-15. The Amplified version of this verse declares that through the finished work of Jesus, the devil has been rendered powerless and impotent. Beloved of God, you do not need to empower the devil in your imagination through legalistic religious rituals, which are based on superstition and fear rather than on the truth of Jesus Christ – your true reality. Colossians 2:15 (AMP) states clearly that: “When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities [those supernatural forces of evil operating against us], He made a public example of them [exhibiting them as captives in His triumphal procession], having triumphed over them through the cross.” – Colossians informs us that Jesus made a public example of the enemy, using the language of a Roman ‘Triumphant Procession’, in which a completely defeated enemy was shown to be rendered entirely powerless and unable to ever engage in battle again. This is why you can be bold and confident that your co-crucifixion with Christ and co-resurrection with Him has plunged you into an entirely new world of heaven on earth (2 Corinthians 5:17). You triumphed over the enemy and completely plundered and defeated him at the cross, because you were ‘in Christ’! – Jesus took the keys of hell and death back from the devil (Revelation 1:18) and gave those keys to us, so that we could walk in manifest, manifold blessing, and effortlessly release heaven on earth wherever we go (Matthew 16:19). Nothing shall by any means harm you! (Luke 10:19)

Christ has given you all authority. Ephesians 1:19-21 reveals that as a believer God’s power is within you – the power that is above all other principalities and powers – and you are co-seated with Christ in his resurrected state, fortified in all of God’s blessings! (Ephesians 2:6). This is why you can confidently live in the revelation of the finished work of Jesus Christ, unafraid of the devil. The power that raised Jesus from the dead, that same power that disarmed all principalities and powers, lives within you and you are of one nature and one spirit with that power! (1 Corinthians 6:17). Throw off any legalistic teachings that make you devil-conscious, superstitious, fearful and paranoid! Jesus encourages us to stop being demon-conscious and to be conscious instead of our new life in Christ, which is a demon-free, oppression-free zone forevermore (Luke 10:20). Warfare is simply joyfare now, as the light of Christ within and through us – our new nature in Christ and the reality of grace – causes the darkness to effortlessly flee. When you step into a room, people naturally get delivered, healed, and restored, without you having to lift a finger. 1 John 3:8 encourages us that “…for this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (KJV). In other words, the manifestation of God in Christ’s finished work, and within you, effortlessly has destroyed, and actively destroys, the work of the devil!

Remember, you do not base your theology on past experience in ‘deliverance’ groups, but on the finished work of Jesus Christ. Good theology is based on the truth of the revelation of Jesus Christ, His love, and His grace, and not on negative experiences. Jesus came full of grace and truth, and caused the darkness to flee by completely destroying it from our reality and life. Colossians 1:13 utters that Christ “hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” (KJV). We HAVE (past-tense) been translated out of a kingdom where the demonic can function and exist, and have been placed into perfect union with Jesus Christ. Ephesians 1:6 writes that we are ‘accepted in the Beloved’ (KJV). The Greek word for ‘accepted’ used here is ‘charitoō’, which means to be encompassed, or surrounded, by favor. You are surrounded by God’s reality of faith and favor – what God knows to be true of you and your reality in your union with Christ. This is an evil-free, demon-free existence! It is the reality of light, which darkness cannot even approach. Instead, whatever touches this light gets transformed to light itself! All curses transform into blessings in your life, because you are encompassed by God’s favor in Christ! (Deuteronomy 23:5)

Spiritual Authority: The Basics

By Paige Hunt

Many Christians today are struggling with sin, sickness, poverty, and many other negatives in their lives. However, Jesus has provided us with a holistic salvation that has redeemed us from every curse, and given us authority to always be above, and not beneath every circumstance, the head and not the tail of every situation that we face. Deuteronomy 28:13 (AMPC) declares:

“And the Lord shall make you the head, and not the tail; and you shall be above only, and you shall not be beneath,”

Through Christ you have freely inherited this blessing and every other blessing of Scripture (See 2 Corinthians 1:20). God desires that you rule and reign in life by his grace – that you take what his grace has provided you through faith, and exercise spiritual 16dominion and authority on this earth! (Romans 5:17). With that being said, let’s begin our topic of ‘Spiritual Authority’…

You were created to have dominion!

To understand how the world got in such a mess, and why so many are struggling, we have to go back to Genesis. In the same way, to understand our authority, we have to return to Genesis, to the Garden of Eden, for it was here that God made his intentions for man clear – God placed man in the midst of Eden, and gave him dominion, fortifying him with blessing. The word Eden means ‘pleasure’, and truly the garden was a haven of pleasure; a scene of harmony, beauty, peace, and abundant blessing. This was the sphere that man was designed, empowered, and created to live, think, and dwell within and from. I love the way that Kenneth Copeland writes about Genesis:

“Everything [in the garden] had been made ready for God’s crowning creation. ‘So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth’ (verses 27-28). – With those words, God imparted to Adam and Eve and to all mankind The Blessing. He told them who they were: the lords of the earth created by God in His image as rulers and royalty. He told them what they were supposed to do: replenish (or fill up) the earth, subdue it and bring it into line with the perfect will of God. He also gave them the power to carry out that assignment. To bless actually means “to empower.” …Adam’s job was to exercise his God-given authority and expand that Garden until it encompassed the entire earth. That’s what The Blessing was for! It provided Adam with the power to carry on the work God began in creation. The Blessing empowered Adam to be a blessing wherever he went.” – Kenneth Copeland ‘The Garden of Eden in You’ (Believer’s Voice of Victory magazine, January 2007) [Insert mine]

Scripture declares God’s original intent for mankind to rule and reign as king’s on earth, prospering in a world of pleasure. There were no qualifications on this dominion either – man was created to live in freedom, joy, and peace. Genesis 1:26 writes this simply: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion…” (KJV)

Throughout Scripture, the original intent of God for mankind is clearly displayed:

  • “The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men…” – Psalm 115:16 (AMPC)
  • “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.” – Psalm 82:6 (KJV)

When God created mankind, he did so because he is a maternal, benevolent figure of pure 17light (1 John 1:5; Deuteronomy 32:18; Hosea 11:3-4; Isaiah 49:15). God’s greatest desire was to birth humanity as the recipients of all of his blessings, wonder, and pleasure, and to give them the earth as a birthday present, a present fitting for ‘Children of the most High’.

The Trouble Begins

Although man was given such an astounding birthday present – to reign on paradise earth – mankind lost this to Satan, being deceived into giving him their God-given authority (see Genesis 3). This is why Luke 4:6 declares that Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and said…

“And he said to Him, To You I will give all this power and authority and their glory (all their magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, and grace), for it has been turned over to me, and I give it to whomever I will.”  – Luke 4:6 (AMPC)

Mankind unwittingly turned their kingly reign over to Satan, and forfeited the life of a king for the life of a slave. However, all was not lost…

Abraham’s Blessing

God, in his passionate love, truly wanted humanity to enjoy their birthday gift of reigning on this earth, so he designed a redemption plan. This began with the blessing that God gave to Abraham in Genesis 12:

“And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you [with abundant increase of favors] and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a blessing [dispensing good to others]. And I will bless those who bless you [who confer prosperity or happiness upon you] and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you; in you will all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed [and by you they will bless themselves].” – Genesis 12:2-3 (AMPC)

Abraham received this blessing through faith, and as a result, he began to reign in life as a king. Scripture records many promises that Abraham walked in, which I’ve detailed in our previous article, click here to be directed. One of the blessings that Abraham walked in was vast prosperity that continually increased (Genesis 13:2; 24:35), and expansive influence. 18Abraham was well-known for the blessings that marked his life (12:2). Indeed, he was so blessed by the blessing of God that he had divine renewal of youth, and him and his wife Sarah were able to have a child when he was 100 years old! (Genesis 17:16-17). Indeed, God truly is a hilariously generous giver!

The promise was not only to Abraham, but also to his offspring (Genesis 17:7). Therefore, throughout Scripture we see people regaining insight into their God-given authority, and accomplishing many mighty things. Hence Daniel 11:32 states, ‘the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits’ (KJV).

“but that is not all!

oh, no.

that is not all…”

 – Dr Seuss. ‘The Cat in the Hat’

 The Seed – Christ

God’s plan of redemption was to completely, fully, and truly redeem mankind back to their full authority and design in him. The blessing given to Abraham travelled down the ages through Abraham’s descendants in varying degrees, right to Jesus Christ. In Scripture, Christ is referred to as the ‘last Adam, a life-giving spirit’ (1 Corinthians 15:45, NIV). In Christ, God fully restored the blessing and authority given to Adam back to the whole human race.

Galatians 3 details this beautifully: in verse 16 we learn that God’s plan was always to redeem the blessing of our authority back to humanity through the finished work of Christ: ‘Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.’(KJV). Verses 13 and 14 tell us in no uncertain terms that through grace, we have inherited the fullness of our authority in the here and now, and can walk in the authority and blessing bestowed upon mankind in the garden:

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (KJV)

So, we can conclude that ‘they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.’ (v 9), and ‘And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.’ (v 29). Believers have fully re-gained their authority as heirs through Jesus Christ!

Heirs of the World

“For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.” – Romans 4:13 (KJV)

Scripture actually declares that through our righteousness in Christ, which comes through faith and not our own performance, abilities, talents, striving, or efforts, we have received the status of heirs of the world.  The ‘world’ here means every material blessing, every earthly good, and all riches. Just like Adam we are called to prosper and have dominion on this earth. We are called to be above and not beneath, to live in abundant provision and 20never in lack, always in health and never in sickness or illness, and always in divine protection and unspeakable, glorious joy. To be an heir of the world means to be blessed materially, physically, relationally, mentally, and spiritually, and to enjoy life to the full and overflowing (John 10:10). God was speaking of us when he declared to Abraham that kings would be among his descendants! (Genesis 17:6).

More than meets the eye…

In fact, as New Covenant believers, we have it even better than Adam and Abraham – we are in union with the Trinity, and as such….

“And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One).” – Ephesians 2:6 (AMPC)

The Good News Bible writes ‘heavenly sphere’ as ‘the heavenly world’. In Christ we live, move, and have our being in a perfect, eternal union with the Trinity who conquered death, the devil, and are above every name that could be named. We are in Christ, seated ‘far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named [above every title that can be conferred], not only in this age and in this world, but also in the age and the world which are to come.” (Ephesians 1:21; AMPC).

“God has given us a huge authority. As born-again believers, Jesus has given us more authority than even Adam and Eve had. They had authority over this earth. However, after Christ rose from the dead, He had authority in heaven, authority on earth, and authority under the earth – meaning the demonic realm and hell (Phil. 2:10)….The authority we have as believers in Christ today is superior to the authority Adam had. We have everything he lost, and much more. We now have authority over the demonic realm (Matthew 10:1, 7-8)” – Andrew Wommack, ‘The Believer’s Authority’ p. 75-76.

As a believer in Christ you have unconditional, irrevocable authority over the demonic realm, as well as kingly authority to reign in this earth, walking in divine prosperity, abundance, peace, joy, health – every blessing that can be named – because you are in Christ, the name above all names, and share in all that he is and all that he has.

  • “…All authority (all power of rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go then and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” – Matthew 28:18-19 (AMPC)
  • “Then Jesus called together the Twelve [apostles] and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases” – Luke 9:1 (AMPC)
  • “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Luke 10:19 (KJV)
  • “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” – Mark 16:17-18 (KJV) “And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen” – Revelation 1:6 (KJV)
  • As a believer in Christ, you have ultimate power and authority over all sicknesses, diseases, and demons. As you have all authority, the devil has none! You have power over all the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you. The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but you have authority and power over harm, destruction and even death, because the dead-raising power of Christ lives on the inside of you and is a natural expression of your true identity and authority (John 10:10; Ephesians 1:19-23). You have authority over natural laws, authority to live in the fullness of God’s blessings, including Psalm 91 protection!

“And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen” – Revelation 1:6 (KJV)

Fortified from Fear

Job 3:25

“What I feared has come upon me; what I dreaded has happened to me.” (NIV)

The Gospel is good news, and in the good news, there is no bad news! That is why the Gospel has declared that in place of dread and fear, as we enjoy this message of Christ’s grace, God will continually fill our heart with the presence and power of His lavish love so that we can live bold in the freedom and irreversible blessings we have been freely given in Him. His love fortifies us from that which we fear and dread. 1 John 4:18 writes it this way: ‘There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has to do with punishment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.’ (KJV). Instead of shame, dread, and fear, we can live life confident that every promise and every blessing imaginable is ours in Christ, without fail. Unlike the old covenant of works, which Job was under, the new covenant of grace gives us a full and perfect image of God’s practical, detailed love –a love which, I will repeat, fortifies us from that which we fear!  This is why Romans 5:5 articulates that ‘hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.’ (NIV). In other words, as you focus on and enjoy God’s love, fear will be swallowed up and God’s good blessings will manifest in your life. You will never have to declare with Job that your fears and dreads have come true, because in Christ you are sure to consistently, constantly abound with prosperity (Deuteronomy 28:11).

This assurance that our fears and dreads will not come upon us comes through the Gospel alone. In Christ, we can declare that we are under a continual fountain of blessings, with every curse eradicated. We get all good, and no bad. We live in the reality of Proverbs 10:22 [“The blessing of the LORD, it makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.” KJV]; the reality that Christ became a curse for us, being cursed in our place, so that the blessing of Abraham could rest upon our lives through Christ’s faithfulness and not our own – that means firm, unshakable, fixed blessings (Galatians 3:13-14). Note that Genesis 24:1 declares that ‘the Lord had blessed Abraham in ALL things’ (KJV). So when you read verses such as Job 3:25, be reassured that you live under a NEW covenant with SUPERIOR promises. A covenant where, like Abraham, you will be blessed in ALL things, meaning that you will experience fear and dread in NO thing! Hebrews 8:6 states:’ Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises’ (KJV).

These better promises mean that we do not have to depend upon our efforts to fortify us from that which we dread, because Christ has hidden us under the shadow of his wings (Psalm 91). So although Scripture declares that Job was a righteous man who often offered up prayers for his children (Job 1:5), Job did not see continual manifest blessing, because Job was under the old covenant, and his security was centred upon his works, rather than upon the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. Job saw his prayers as the atoning work, rather than God’s power, because did not understand the love and goodness of God, made evident in the gospel of Christ (1 John 5:20). He did not understand that he could rest upon God’s faithful all-sufficiency, rather than having to live in a world of dread and fears. As a result, Job’s prayers brought no relief, because they did not look to the Answer, but remained focused upon his worries and works.  What seemed like faith was really a dead work, and as Hebrews states, believers under the new covenant are those called to move on from dead (lifeless) works, to embrace faith in God (Hebrews 6:10). So today, if you find yourself living in fear and responding to its compulsions, rather than responding to faith, take a big rest! You are fortified and free in Christ, under a new and superior covenant, and in order to experience your freedom from fear and dead works, simply continue to hear the message of God’s love and grace. As the writer of Hebrews has spoken, under this new covenant you can experience the reality that Christ’s finished work has purged you completely from your need for dead works to fortify, protect, and bring blessing upon your life: “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” – Hebrews 9:14 (KJV)

Victory, Authority, Abundance

Zechariah 9:11-12

“As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water. Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee;” (KJV)

Through Christ, God has provided the way out of a dry, dull, boring life, a life marked by the expectation of lack and suffering.  In fact, in Christ we have been given God’s very own life, including his own emotional wealth and natural prosperity! We have been plugged into the victory and authority of the resurrected Christ, who conquered every one of earth’s trials and distresses, and seated us above all natural principalities and powers (Ephesians 1:18-22). Scripture is even so bold as to declare that you have been given all authority in Christ, so that ‘nothing shall by any means hurt you’ (Luke 10:19 KJV). This means that our lives are no longer marked by pain, inferiority, or struggle – instead, we are inheritors of vast blessings in our finances and natural circumstances to such an extent that we will be able to lend to nations without borrowing from anyone! (Deuteronomy 28:12). It is the goodness of God that transforms us from an insecure need to rely on self and others, to being fully reclined in the sweet paradise of His bliss-filled goodness, seated in the victories and culture of heaven in the here and now!

Some people think that we need to strive, serve, or earn our way into the God-quality of life. Others believe that we must imagine it into existence. However, Scripture is clear that there is one way and one way only to experience the abundant, victorious life – a life so rich in quality that it eradicates any consciousness of lack – and that is simply through hearing and enjoying the grace of God as revealed in Jesus Christ! As we look to Jesus, his love effortlessly begins to switch us from self-consciousness, to a consciousness convinced of the all-sufficiency of Christ. As we enjoy the revelation of Jesus Christ for us, in us, and as us, living waters flow up from within us and water our whole lives with the power-filled blessings of the Gospel! (John 7:38). Faith for the God-quality of life, which includes natural as well as spiritual blessings, is not something we have to muster up. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as ‘the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen’ (KJV). In other words, faith is co-knowing with God what God knows to be true of us in our union with Christ, which is why Colossians 2:17 states clearly that ‘the substance belongs to Christ’ (NASB). Christ’s victory ushers the substance of heaven into our lives! (by the way, enjoying the Gospel is not a work either, but an effortless by-product of seeing the grace of Jesus Christ and his goodness towards us!)

Just like holiness and sanctification, we manifest the entirety of our authority, victory, and prosperity through Christ and Christ alone. This is why Ephesians 1:7 exclaims that the grace of God is given to us with wisdom ‘…according to the riches of his grace’ (KJV). In other words, it isn’t according to our good works or our striving. It is all through Christ and his grace that we have gained the victory! Through Christ we can declare along with Zechariah that we have been removed from the dry, difficult pits of life (‘the pit where there is no water’), and shown so much favor and grace that we not only have ‘double for our trouble’, we also have become ‘prisoners of hope’. Christ has made our future so positive, so filled with that confident expectation of good, that we can expect nothing less than full-fat goodness to manifest in our circumstances and finances!

Walking in Heavenly Authority

Luke 10:19-20

“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.”

As a believer in Christ, God wants you to be aware of your reality, which is heaven on earth in the here and now. This is not simply a humble, peace-making ideology, but a tangible, practical, life-giving world of wonder, filled with the substance of God’s power and optimistic love. God’s ecstatic, joy-filled imagination formed and shaped a world of fantastical bliss that all of your senses can engage in and interact with  through the eyes of your imagination, as you meditate on the heavenly realities of Jesus’ finished work (Ephesians 1:18). This New World in Jesus is your honeymoon island, given to you through God the Father, which you explore as you sail on your Holy Spirit luxury cruise ship! 1 Corinthians 2:12 describes it this way: ‘we have received the Spirit who is from God so that we may know the things freely given to us by God’ – with God, everything is smooth sailing! You can expect bliss-filled days in this entirely new world of serenity in Christ! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

In your marriage to Jesus Christ, you have been translated to the Grand Isle of Heaven, which is ‘in all and through all’ (Ephesians 4;6; Colossians 1:17; 1 Corinthians 8:6). So how do you access and engage with this reality, living in the heavenly victory and authority which is your inheritance? – Simple! You SEE this Island is real, through the belief that Jesus’ resurrection is yours, and thus, the entire Godhead lives within you! Colossians 1:27-28 in The Passion Translation states that: ‘Living within you is the Christ who floods you with the expectation of glory! The mystery of Christ, embedded within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of glory for his people, and God wants everyone to know it! Christ is our message! We preach to awaken hearts and bring every person to the full understanding of truth’.

As you understand the authority within you, you will walk effortlessly in the manifest blessings of heaven on earth, including all of your enemies – whether they be emotional, relational, or financial – having to bow down to this revelation that you live in heaven on earth. Deuteronomy 28:7 states that ‘The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven’. Jesus causes you to walk on flourishing paths of intoxicating heavenly beauty and prosperity. God has given you tangible, authentic heaven on earth in the here and now. It is this revelation that transforms everything – every last enemy- into conforming with the truth that your name is recorded in heaven! You are in heaven!
