Partner with the Holy Spirit for a grace foundation!

1 Corinthians 3:10-11

‘By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.’

The Holy Spirit is so wonderful; he will not put pressure on us, and he doesn’t desire to dictate our lives in the name of his ‘will’, but rather he gently leads us, he desires to partner with us! What a truth! The mighty Spirit of God desires to partner and co-labour with us! Don’t ever relegate yourself to someone to be ‘used’ by God! God himself has called you worthy, seated you in heavenly places, and declared that you get to work with him, not for him!

The purpose of Salvation calls us to rest, to be settled in our union with Christ. Then, out of play and rest, we are invited to partner with Jesus and, out of our rest, see the Kingdom manifest on earth! However, in the attempt to see greatness, many forget the first bit; many get so busy trying to ‘win the world for Jesus’ that they forsake their first love, they forsake rest and play! One of the main things the Holy Spirit wants to partner with us in is in the laying of a grace foundation! It is imperative that all believers have a foundation of grace for their lives; a gospel-centric, Christocentric foundation for their entire lives. Grace is holistic; because the finished works of Jesus are for every area of our lives. Although, many are actually living from a ‘pick ‘n mix’ foundation; many believers have little bits of grace, accompanied by dollops of law, with shreds of self-effort, accompanied by a pessimistic outlook! But the Holy Spirit remains faithful, wooing us into grace, desiring to partner with us to build a grace foundation!

Paul worked with the Holy Spirit to build grace foundations in the lives of believers and churches. Firstly Paul states that he was building with what he had received – GRACE! (Remember that grace is the message of the finished works of Jesus, the imparted reality of unmerited favour, and the power of God unto Salvation etc.) Secondly he says he is an expert builder; grace enabled Paul to efficiently declare the gospel! And lastly Paul said that the only true foundation is grace, Mr Grace himself, in fact – Jesus! Paul said that no other foundation should be laid, Jesus is enough! It is this foundation which the Holy Spirit desires to co-labour with in laying! Today, let’s rest in the love of our great Daddy God, and let’s allow the Holy Spirit to teach us the mystery of the gospel of grace!

Taken to the heights of glory in Jesus!

1 Corinthians 2:9-10

‘However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” – but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.’

How glorious is it to know that there is no great ascension we need to somehow climb in Christ?! There is no mystical building, whereby our good works translate to spiritual building material! But, in our beautiful Jesus we have ascended with him to the highest heights of glory and have been provided a vast estate; a glorious union with everything provided, the quality of which goes far beyond anything the wisdom of man could imagine or describe! And we get to live these glories throughout our day, every day! So many settle for mediocre, when in Christ we already have a solid, eternal union laden with every blessing imaginable! Whether you can feel this reality or not, whether it seems logical, it is real and it is the truth, it’s in Christ!

Now, not everyone believes that this reality – the truth of having something prepared that is unimaginable to human wisdom, that is so beautiful that even the best human language can’t describe, something that is engineered so wonderfully that the cleverest of human logic can’t fathom or explain – is for the here and now. Lots of people relegate verse 9 of 1 Corinthians 2 to the after-death experience. However, those people forget the mega scope of the finished work of Jesus and the glorious impact of the Spirit of God, oh and verse 10 which states that God has revealed those things already! Why has he revealed them? Why are they not a mystery to the children of God? Because they are in us, included in our Salvation! Paul goes on to say in the same chapter that the Spirit is given to us to so that we may understand the things FREELY given of God (vrs. 12), and then says we have the mind of Christ, we know the things of God! (vrs. 16).

We have the Spirit now! And by virtue of having the Spirit we have the glorious things which the Spirit reveals, those things freely given! Be confident today! Know that you have a no-lack union, filled with so much glory that it can only be the Jesus-experience!
