The Trustworthiness of Christ

2 Timothy 2:13

‘if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.’ (ESV)

Christ came into the human experience with a mission and a persuasion; he knew the burning love of the Godhead towards humanity and intended to recreate her in the very image and substance of God! How incredible! This reality is more than a mere half-hearted-dubbed hope, but a true and living hope! (see 1 Peter 1:3) This is a reality that you can trust! This is your experience which you can depend on! God and his gospel are totally secure! Christ and his finished work are enough! And, Holy Spirit and her everlasting presence remain!

I like how much 1st and 2nd Timothy talk about faithfulness, namely; the faithfulness of Christ to his bride and the faithfulness of his finished work and the reality of Salvation! Here are a few aspects of the unchanging reality and faithfulness of the gospel which you can count on: The first would be today’s meditative verse, here it is again: ‘if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.’ (ESV) Wow! Your Papa is so in love with you, he’s so committed to you – so much so, that he has forever joined himself to you through Holy matrimony! Even if you were faithless, even if you turned away, his faithfulness to you is unchanging! The faithfulness and trustworthiness of the gospel is sure to testify to your faithful God, even if you were utterly faithless! He and it is that good!

Here is another aspect of the faithfulness of Christ’s work: ‘It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:’ (2 Timothy 2:11, KJV). You died! Christ took you into himself and so his death was a very real and tangible death for you! When Christ rose, he didn’t leave you behind! The truth of the faithful gospel is that you died and now via the precious Holy Spirit you can also LIVE! You can take that to the bank! Christ has given you his life (John 10:10, Colossians 3:1-4), and through this Salvation you can truly live!

And the last faithful truth that we will ponder today is: ‘This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.’ (1 Timothy 1:15, KJV). Christ came to save sinners! He didn’t come to save us from an angry deity; he came to save us from being ‘sinners’! I’m not referring to the actions of ‘sinning’, but rather that fallen, curse-ridden existence that came through the first Adam! Jesus is love-incarnate and truly, accurately reveals that the whole of the human race needed saving and were worth saving! This faithful truth takes away from any notion that God could presume a human as no good, or resigned to condemnation! Christ came to SAVE, not condemn!

So today, after reading this devotional, know with confidence, and celebrate the fact that Christ is unwaveringly faithful… and committed to you manifesting his life in this earth – he’s intent on your success and happiness! And Know that this gospel of heaven is truly good news for earth – ‘good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.’ (Luke 2:10 KJV)
